Okay so the first thing I found that wasnt AI generated was from a place called gymshark. Never heard of the website before, but its reiterating what Ive already known from wrestling training.

copy and paste below:

* Slower is better: This isnt a race: Perform your push ups in a slow and controlled manner to maximise muscle activation. Taking things slower will mean you fatigue less quickly, so you can perform more reps and make greater strength gains. If you find regular push ups too easy, then try one of our push up progressions.
end copy and paste.

it appears the slow pushups are more prevalent in body building and weight lifting just from a cursory glance of google.

same thing applies to pull ups. No flopping. No kicking your legs. None of that stuff because then your using other muscles instead of the ones youre supposed to be using for the exercise. Hang still, pull straight up. Hold. Slowly go back down.

Now that'd make sense, because the point of body building is to build muscle, period, no matter what it means for cardio or anything else, so holding pushups longer makes sense, there.

But that doesn't really apply outside of body building.
