This is the GBA version, which is just the DS version but with crunchier audio. Thats not inherently a bad thing, but maybe its the link but I have a hard time not getting a bit of a headache from all the crunch. The GBA is a weird soundchip in that part of the appeal for some fans is its crunchy audio. There are soundtracks where thats definitely true for me, but I dont think this song in particular is one of them. That said, Magma Cavern is still a great track, like so much of PMD1! The melody is terrific and the overall arrangement is stellar. The DS version would do much better, but I know the nominator wanted to give a shoutout to the GBA, which is perfectly fine, but for me at least the crunch is too overpowering. Even among chiptuneheads I dont ever see it getting discussed. But here we have this song, an SMS version of an arcade classic, and itmostly works? Some of the notes are reeeeally high-pitched in kind of an unpleasant way, but the core melody is still there.
