88. Final Fantasy XIII-2 (PS3)

XIII-2 is the second game in the Lightning trilogy of Final Fantasy games, and had some interesting mechanics that set it apart from the original game. Most notably, we saw the introduction of a monster catching system, which allowed you to catch and use monsters encountered as the third member of your party, and time-travelling mechanics, which saw you visit multiple areas at different points in time, where past actions would alter them in different ways.

Visiting areas at multiple points in history and seeing the repercussions of the story affect characters that I had already grown to care about from the first game was really cool, and I found myself invested in the story in a way that I wasn't with the first game. The combat was almost identical to the original, however that was one of the things I enjoyed most from the first game so it was nice to see it return.

The paradox endings, which were largely useless to the main story, ended up being my favourite part of this game. In multiple situations, you could go back to certain points in the timeline and change the way a plot point was approached, resulting in the game "ending" after history had been changed. It was a cool touch for people, like myself, who enjoy time-travel nonsense in stories.

87. Mario Kart DS (NDS)

I'll start by saying that the only two Mario Kart games I spent any significant time with were DS and 6, and this one was my real introduction to the series, so it will always be significant to me. I received the red DS bundled with this game for Christmas the year it came out (which I still have), and for a long time it was the only game I played on the system.

Other than that, it's Mario Kart, and there isn't really much to say about it. I plan on picking up the 3DS version in the near future, but for now, this is my go to Mario Kart game, in terms of enjoyability.
