#300:

#9 Gengar
413 / 500gr ; 2016 Rank - 16th
Gengar didn't get past the funky marathon round last year as it just kind of faded behind all the other competitors. Gengar has a chance to change its fate this year, however. Any gen one can get enough support to win, but I'd put Gengar's chances fairly low as it doesn't really have that well-rounded support it needs to pull off a win. Anything is possible in POTY, though!

#10 Ampharos
396 / 500gr ; 2016 Rank - 29th
As my personal favorite of the top 16, Ampharos has a 0% chance of winning. In all seriousness, though, Ampharos has been a long-running favorite of many people in Pokemon. Ampharos top it's division over Houndoom this year, so even though it sits in 10th, it can easily pull off a win here!

#11 Lucario
376 / 500gr ; 2016 Rank - 4th
The second best 2016 performer still in the competition. Lucario will always have strength in POTY, and we can all see it making top 5 yet again, but can anyone see it taking the crown? I see Lucario as a Pokemon who will always finish top 30, but will never clinch the win. After beating Empoleon last year in WC, to only losing to Espeon this year 17-13, to 4th place overall last year...Lucario has a resume built up. Let's see if he can land that CEO position.

#12 Eevee

370 / 500gr ; 2016 Rank - 22nd
As the seed of all its strong Eon brethren, Eevee has trouble fully standing out on its own. This year, though, Eevee has broken through to the top 16 and looks to perform in the way it deserves. The same thing that could be seen as a strength for Eevee is also its biggest challenge to overcome. Eevee will always be in the shadow of the JoltUmbEspeon trio so let's see if it can change that.

#13 Mimikyu
356 / 500gr ; 2016 Rank - NR
The second of our new additions to the top 16, Mimikyu has a great chance of taking the crown this year. Mimikyu has had some strong performances this year, but has its share of supporters and doubters. I'd say Mimikyu is a polarizing figure this year, having come up the most in discussion. The format for top 16 is raw support with no chances to attack another Pokemon. In that kind of format, I'd say Mimikyu is guaranteed to be seen facing off vs. something in top 10.

#14 Articuno
355 / 500gr ; 2016 Rank - 35th
Articuno has an uphill battle, but having just advanced out of a division with last year's 1st and 5th, anything is possible now! Articuno did finish behind Pangoro in the division, but that division was quite twisted so I wouldn't say Pangoro has the upper hand.

#15 Empoleon
342 / 500gr ; 2016 Rank - 2nd
After finishing 2nd last year, Empoleon has being clawing and scraping to stay in this. Every round seems like a close call. Since Squirtle has been ousted this year, Empoleon remains that top 2016 performer in the competition. I will say I strongly doubt that Empoleon pulls off a repeat, but I've been an avid Empoleon doubter who has been proven wrong time and time again. Let's roll a dice and see where Emp ends up.

#16 Charmander
318 / 500gr ; 2016 Rank - 43rd
Fresh off of a Charizard victory, Charmander is looking for something to prove. I could say with relative confidence that being stuck in a division with Charizard perhaps helped Charmander. After being outperformed by Squirtle and Bulbasaur last year (1st and 3rd, respectively,) Charmander certainly finished on top this year. This underdog, however, is going to have to pull off a miracle to take the crown.
