The End

From the crumbled remains of the blown up metal works rivers of molten molten steel flowed freely into various areas of the arena. As the viscous metal covered the ground above much of it fell below through grates and storm drains. It poured down through the sewers and hidden tunnels that flowed throughout the underbelly of the battlefield. Further down it worked through cracks in the mortar until it made its way into a long sealed off chamber. Through various holes in its ceiling the chamber was rained down on by the molten steel. The various rods coming up from the floor of the chamber began to release steam and gas at a rapid rate. The rising temperature in the room made the entire chamber unstable as the long dormant fission reactor started to have a core meltdown.

The remaining tributes above were oblivious to the imminent destruction that was about to be wrought from below. They continued to fight, hunt, forage and make alliances, completely unaware that all of the efforts were for naught. There was no warning, just a sudden rumble and then nothing but fire and pressure exploding outward as the nuclear reactor erupted. In moments the entire arena was reduced to ashes. No buildings left standing, no tributes left surviving. The people from the capital and various districts watched helplessly on their TVs as the explosion burst out in a flash and then cut off all of their communications. Unrest broke out throughout the nation. There was no point to the hunger games if there was no winner. As the districts fell into chaos the capital dispatched a team to survey the remains of the arena. The team flew in on their ships as close as they could, but were unable to approach the ground zero for some time. As they waited, preparing themselves to enter the radioactive wastes they were amazed as a single being rose from the ashes of the battlefield and walked toward them.

No one was prepared for the outcome that had arisen. From the mechanized suit Ernie’s DNA had been stored, saved and dispersed through millions of microscopic nanobots. The nanobots were able to withstand the nuclear fallout and reconstructed the once deceased dog to his former self. A new type of creature, both mechanical and organic this new Ernie was immune to the radiation from the explosion. He was healed of all injuries sustained in the games and cured of all preexisting ailments. The microbial nanobots were a part of him and would heal any wound he were to sustain and prevent him from aging. This new form of life created by the nuclear fallout of the hunger games was all but immortal.
