Wrong wrong wrong. Most construction companies (which is obviously a decent job) won't even hire a dropout, because they have dozens of people WITH diplomas applying. Doesn't mean a piece of paper magically makes them better people or more qualified to do the job, but let's be honest, we all know how society views dropouts.
Hell, you can get a job in retail still, but without a diploma you'll never make management, because you'll get passed over by the 19 year Olds who do have one.

A diploma is still relevant. Whatever doors remain open to folks who do not pursue college, are almost universally closed to those who (from an employers perspective) couldn't even be bothered to complete HS.
