TopicI'm very disappointed at the Yooka' Laylee reviews.

There's a reason nobody makes collect-a-thons anymore. They were only popular because 3D was shiny and brand new at the time. Nowadays people want actual gameplay in their games.

I mean, I don't really find Banjo-Kazooie all that fun anymore because the gameplay is really shallow like that. You just run around picking up stuff for like 90% of the collectibles, and most of the jiggies that aren't just lying around are rewards for picking up other stuff and delivering it somewhere.

But Banjo-Tooie is still a ton of fun to play through every few years because of the minigames, boss fights, and complex worlds. That game is a lot less "grab everything in every little random corner" and more "visit everywhere in the level and you'll pick up all the minor stuff automatically, but expect to work for your jiggies." I'm probably in the minority, but I loved the design of levels like Grunty Industries and Hailfire Peaks because of their complexity.

The reviews of Yooka-Laylee indicate that it has a lot of those sort of questing and minigame elements, but if the level design is bad (and it looked absolutely goddamn abysmal in that casino level preview, though the jungle level looked okay), the camera is bad, and the game just doesn't have enough polish to feel that good to play, then it's a pass from me.
