I was majorly into the series when they were first released (early 2000's), but as a kid, waiting between GoF & OotP made my hype go way down. And then OotP was very different than GoF and I just stopped caring. I've yet to read 5-7. My wife recently reread the entire series (just finished it two days ago). She loves them.
