To be fair, the degree of involvement is everything, and it's pretty questionable in the case of adultery. Sure, the guy who sold you the kitchen knife isn't responsible for the person who you stab with it. But a person who drives the getaway car in a robbery is at least an accessory to the crime. But the guy who fucks the girl isn't doing anything but having consentual sex. He's not cheating on you. He's being hit on. What "Getaway" car is he driving? He's just there. I'm not saying he's literally driving a getaway car. I'm saying that we judge people based on their level of (knowing) involvement in something even if they aren't the direct perpetrator of whatever socially awkward and/or immoral act we happen to be talking about.
