Yeah it's pretty irritating. It is hard to separate the good from the mediocre within a genre when Netflix recommends me shows now.
That's why they need to change it back but I know the Dear White People 1 star would get them being called a racist
You know the star rating wasn't universal, right? It was based on what Netflix thought you might like.
Hmmm maybe, but after the thumbs system came out they recommended me the new Adam Sandler movie with a 96% match and I always rate his movies one star and never once watch one. Also they have been making it harder and harder to read users reviews.
The rating system is not (and never was) 100% based on your individual ratings of content. It is an algorithm that includes other people. If people with your same taste have been rating Adam Sandler movies at a higher rate, the algorithm suggests that you would probably like it, too. It can be hard to cover outliers.
For example, Netflix would probably push Game of Thrones really hard on me, if it was available and rate it 5 stars/98% match. I love medieval era movies, I like political dramas, fantasy, and action films. I makes perfect sense that I would love GoT. Turns out, I couldn't get in to it.
??? I wasnt disagreeing with you. I was saying this new system seems to want to push the shit they paid for and lost money on. Your GoT analogy doesn't really apply here. I rated ALL SANDLER MOVIES 1 STAR. There was no indication that I would like it, Hell even before the thumb system his movies were like 2 stars on my netflix. Now its 96%? Get the fuck outta here(not you netflix). ---
While I may not agree with your opinion, I will defend to the death your right to have it.
