It relied on a whole bunch of stuff that happened (and didn't happen) in MG2. Frank and Big Boss and Metal Gear and a whole lot of stuff seems kinda odd if you don't know what happened. I can't really remember any twists that caught me as off guard as anything in MG1, 2, MGS1, 2, or 4. The soundtrack to MGS3 was amazing, I will give it that.
