Unfortunately my days are also numbered because even if 2000 pulls through here, my 2000 > 1997 pick is looking pretty sketchy right about now.
Yeah, I can't really see 2000 besting 1997. Why'd you think it would?
My pre-contest thoughts were that having a variety of games was more important than the actual strength of the games themselves. So like in this case an oversimplified version of it is something like "2000 takes a decent chunk (but still a minority) of the Square JRPG vote with FFIX but then wins the entirety of the Nintendo vote through MM and Pokemon GSC." Basically 2000 looks like it has a foothold with every fanbase, whereas 1997 doesn't appear to.
It sort of makes sense to me still, but I think just the gaming community is a lot less segregated than I was imagining it to be beforehand.
