Basic human right, no. Nice thing to have in a civilised modern society, yes.

America has some forms of socialised medicine already, there are systems of "socialism laundering" all over the U.S. healthcare system with the state paying massive chunks of the bill through taxation at the back door out of sight. It's ludicrously expensive mind you with the American state paying more for healthcare per capita than the UK does on the NHS, with citizens paying out the same amount again on top of that for private provision.

You already spend more on healthcare at a state level than most developed countries do to get universal coverage, you should already have universal healthcare, you fucking pay enough for it.
