ThePieReborn 05/15/17 11:39:46 AM #20: | Disregarding the Lost Cause schtick, Lee's command was apt during the war, but the notable failures at Antietam and Gettysburg significantly darken the legacy. The notion that a swift and decisive blow to the Union (and the morale of the people/top brass) was necessary was on point, but those two losses sealed the deal that the superior logistics of the Union would come out on top over the long haul. I do agree that the wild goose chase leading to his surrender brought only even more unnecessary bloodshed given the state of the war in both the east and west. --- Party leader, passive-aggressive doormat, pasta eater extraordinaire! ...
