Topic	Why are all the OP Metal Gears in the 70s/80s?

The design for the mass-produced RAYS that were built to guard Arsenal Gear differed from the original Marines' RAY that was built to hunt down REX derivatives (most notably, they don't have a tail). Given the different roles they were meant to play, I'd say it's entirely reasonable that the mass-produced version would have more trouble with a REX. Apparently, the novelization of MGS4 (which, btw, wat) heavily implies that Ocelot's RAY was a modified Arsenal Gear/Outer Heaven one which would help explain why it was defeated by REX. It's also worth pointing out that RAY was designed to hunt down Metal Gear derivatives, presumably made mostly by crackpot terrorist cells and dictators who'd cobble together what they could. I also don't think it was ever tested out against them, so it's possible it would have just failed terribly.
