As much as I hate folk who constantly have their face in their phone when I'm out with them at the movies it's slightly different as not much talking is done anyway as you would be watching the movie. It's not like she was doing any harm texting either(assuming she had her phone on silent). Perhaps his date wasn't interested in the movie and he dragged her along to see it.
