Who you know and how much money you can save/make a company This is a big part of why I left my old (admittedly good) job. I was looking for opportunities to move up to higher positions and there was a winter program that was designed to prepare you for the sort of jobs I was after. Entry was limited to a few, and like half the people who got selected over me were OBJECTIVELY bad at their jobs and some had even been fired/rehired for drug use and other things that make them precarious if chosen for positions of higher responsibility. I wasn't selected despite being generally liked, being very good at my job, but not letting other people/departments walk all over me/not taking anyone's shit either. The sacrifices I made to stay at that job (basically not living in the "real" world, not being able to go to school to improve my job prospects, etc) were not worth it if I wasn't going to be able to rise up to a much higher level. --- RIP TurboAE86 (19XX-2017) - No amount of Scrotal Googling could find him peace in this mortal world.
