No, honestly, the first season was sub par. Same with the office.

Most comedies tend to suck (or at least be mediocre) in their first season or two. Mainly because it takes both writers and actors time to really find their groove and hit their stride.

After that, most comedies tend to peak for about 2-3 seasons where they're at their best, before starting to decay into a formulaic mess that slowly gets worse and worse and worse until it eventually needs to be put out of its misery.

Very few comedies peak right from the start, and even fewer seem able to maintain anything resembling their best work for more than five straight seasons or so. Animation seems to be slightly more forgiving, but even that gets tired after a while.
