People can dismiss that out of hand with "Oh, that's all instinct and habits from thousands of years ago, but now we're totally self-aware and able to evaluate our own choices and make decisions based on logic rather than pure animal instinct", but people in general are woefully naive about just how much our own innate biology and evolutionary tendencies DO shape our behavior (in countless ways other than just mating habits), no matter how much we try to convince ourselves otherwise. In a lot of ways, we're basically computers made out of meat and neurotransmitters. Pretty much this. Things like emotion occur on a subconscious level, and cannot be prevented with logic.
