I question the ability to develop contacts when you don't know the user except by a site specific handle. In the strictest sense of the word sure. You can make friends on the board, exchange info and meet them on other sites, but I personally feel that stretches the definition. So while technically social media, I personally wouldn't consider it as such. Much like I would not consider a taco a sandwich despite the fact that it is meat cheese and veggies inbetween two layers of bread. --- I am awesome and so are you.
