Maybe you predominantly play games where what you said is true, but we've already established that you've got a pretty narrow perspective on gaming. Generally, it's almost the opposite that is true most of the time. A story in games is just an excuse that serves the gameplay. And if you really care that much about story, you probably shouldn't play games at all because even the more story-driven ones tend to be pretty weak compared to other means of storytelling ...
