Marik used Revival Jam, a monster that automatically resummons itself when it's destroyed + some card that meant Yugi could only attack Revival Jam. Slyfer's attack was equal to the cards in your hand x 1000, so his strategy was to let Yugi attack the Jam, have it revive, draw cards with that spell, increase Slyfer's attack. But Yugi used a card to take control of Revival Jam. One of Slyfer's abilities was that he would automatically attack any monster Yugi put into play. So he auto-attacked Revival Jam, it would die and revive, Marik would draw, Sylfer would auto-attack, Jam would die and revive, Marik would draw, Slyfer would auto-attack, etc.
