Did you play through BotW? I think I remember you talking about it but I'm not sure since that must have been right around when you left

And if you did play it, what did you think of it?

I did play through it. I was totally enraptured with it at first. I was in a bit of a honeymoon phase, so I was less open to admitting its problems. But nowadays, I acknowledge that it has some serious weaknesses. The soundtrack, while good, was still very disappointing. Going the minimalist route for the first open-world Zelda seems idiotic to me, and I don't buy that whole "they'll get tired of hearing the same music" crap. That's an easy fix. Every region has its own theme, which is split into two variants: daytime and nightime. Exactly like how Xenoblade does it.

The game is very fun to play and thus scratches the gameplay itch, but it fails completely in terms of story content. There's not that much of it and it's not very compelling. They just drop so much in terms of potential story elements; they could have done SO MUCH MORE with the Yiga, for instance. The overworld is a bit barren and regions like Hebra and the Gerudo Highlands have no real reason to exist. Would've been nice if there was lore to discover regarding the different landmarks such as the coliseum, but the game offers near nothing like that. The cutscenes are very boring and a huge step back from the dynamic style that Skyward Sword had with its cutscenes despite the inclusion of voice acting. The dungeon presence is the weakest it's ever been, though I'm not necessarily complaining about that. The boss battles were largely weak.

Despite those complaints it's still probably my favorite Zelda, but it could be a lot better.
