I thought it was a "party where a grown adult tells everyone what gender they identify with", even when I've heard of "party where expectant parents find out/tell reveal if their baby is a boy or girl", but not by name "gender reveal party".
All I know is it's either balloons, or cake layers, colored blue or pink. If you're expecting twins, a blue layer AND a pink layer means the twins are fraternal, and a boy and a girl.
