If you go through some of the later game dungeons you will find a lot of doors to rooms. Some of these rooms contain treasure, the next floor, etc. But most of them are empty with high encounter rates.

This I actually like because it encourages you to keep a map and update it. For the most part other Final Fantasy games make their dungeons linear or for the most part somewhat open. This actually encouraged you to map things out, and punished you for not doing it (similar to WRPGs of the time).

In fact, probably the main reason I like 2 is that it feels the most like a WRPG of any Final Fantasy game.
