Like there are several points in the show where you can see her defiant nature (from episode 1 on) and as you get to the end the demands she starts making of others (and especially the sybil) become greater. This is even more evident in S2 (which is not as good, but Akane is not the reason why). But like part of the way through she realizes the sybil is not perfect and later she realizes that even if it's imperfect it's not replaceable. Getting two realizations in the same show and making them both meaningful to a characters development is difficult to do. She had to stand at the center of law, mostly because she's the only one who could.
