You're right; you don't owe anyone anything. However, it's just manners and common courtesy at work here. It's basically just the saying "One good turn deserves another". People use those apps (primarily) to meet others who share the same interests, sexual orientation or to just find friends or someone with whom they might sincerely connect with. You use that as a loophole to get what you want; (and apparently, it's not much. A meal and drinks......) and then leave them in the middle of nowhere. So to answer your original question, although it's not illegal to fool someone (not talking of blatant fraud or mispresentation), it just isn't right. It's not the right thing to do.
