You see a lot of trans adults say they felt different at such a young age.

They might not have known they had gender identity disorder, or even knew much about it. But its likely the same weird feeling kept following them around, then when they got old enough they pinpointed it to gender identity disorder.

Honestly, there were kids I went to school with that I remember thinking "they're weird" about, and not being able to fully understand why, but it was very likely they were transgender (and not even knowing what that was until I was middle-school age meant simplifying it in my mind). In hindsight, all the people I just thought were noticeably different seemingly fell into LGBT or autism spectrums, respectively, and it makes perfect sense now as an adult. To my class's credit, at least, nobody really treated them poorly because of it.

It was just little things like "why does my friend's older brother love ponies so much?" or "why does that boy act like a girl and have only girl friends?" - real thoughts as a kid.
