They were both struggling to convince the other person and they were both bad at it but kept trying. Kinda similar to King's Landing meetings with Tywin and Tyrion, but with protagonists instead. the content was pretty good! but tywin/tyrion are more charismaric with wittier lines. you've kind of highlighted my point, actually! --- yet all sailors of all sorts are more or less capricious and unreliable - they live in the varying outer weather, and they inhale its fickleness ...
