The answer to TC's question is "because women hit them"

No seriously, that's not a neck beard answer. It's what the stats point to.

1. Most DV is reciprocal
2. Women start the violence far more often than males do (for reasons that have somewhat already been touched on in this topic)
3. Usually the female starts hitting because of something verbal said by the male. The male starts hitting because he was hit first
4. Male on female unreciprocated DV is actually a lot rarer than female on male unreciprocated violence these days IIRC.
