You could find the new game's Pokemon plus older Pokemon if they want to fill in some of the gaps in Pokemon types that don't show up in that game for a while. There's usually an extra area after you beat the newer games where you can catch classic Pokemon. A lot of older Pokemon won't show up no matter what, so the only option is to transfer them from your old save file in previous games.
