Ideas like the caliph as the highest religious authority, religious policing, didn't start until the Abbasid Caliphate, three centuries after Islam. I don't think most people know these things. To be accurate though the cycle of hatred in the Middle East has as much or more to do with politics rather than religion. It's very much a "We'll keep occupying you until you stop terrorizing us" "We'll keep terrorizing you until you stop occupying us" kind of thing. ... Copied to Clipboard! |
