What world do you live in where "eating damage" isn't tanking?

Because she isn't taking damage? The point of a tank is to absorb damage, not completely dissolve it. D.Va herself gets destroyed pretty quickly when she's actually tanking.

Eating the damage helps a lot though because it not only saves yourself it saves allies as well. It being half of what it was means D.Va can't use it nearly as often. I don't think it even lasts the duration of Zarya's Ultimate after the change which is pretty huge since you could otherwise eat a ton of the damage your team might take.

Yes, it made her extremely valuable but extremely unengaging. Like, that was the biggest complaint they aimed to address. The "proper" D.Va play was focused almost entirely around defense matrix and managing that. Sure, it was a good ability, but not a fun one. This change serves to make D.Va more fun, while keeping that utility there for players who can learn how to use it efficiently.

I mean, I remember Lucio before the range nerf. He was super useful and easy to play, but one of the most boring in the game. I remember being annoyed by the changes before they took place because it sounded like he was going to become useless, since you were removing part of what made him so easy to be effective with. But obviously I was wrong, since now he's even more effective in the right hands, and also way more fun to play since speed boost feels like a necessary part of his toolkit for actual battle, and his Amp it Up can't just be thrown out constantly against an actual threat. It made me realize, "Hey, maybe game designers actually know how to make the games more fun." The only change that ever felt really bad was that initial Bastion buff, but they fixed that up pretty quickly.
