So I look up how they are done. They are dermal piercings and you can get them on any flat body surface. They work like a metal button. They insert a base into the upper layer of skin. They do this by creating a hole in the dermal layer. This is done with either a needle or a dermal punch device. Once the hole is created they insert the peg base underneath the skin. The person will now have a peg on their body that they can fashion a piercing to.

The process is simple but should still always be done by a professional. A bad piercing can cause infection and that infection could cause toxic shock syndrome.

Toxic shock syndrome is a condition commonly associated with super absorbent tampons but can occur in any infection. Toxic shock syndrome is caused by the release of superantigens. The two primary diseases that do this are staph and strep. By releasing the superantigens they can cause a T-cell response where 20% of the t-cells are activated. This is leagues above the normal response which is only .001%.

This activation causes the release of cytokines, one being interferon gamma. This triggers the activation of macrophages. These then produce proinflammatory cytokines such as TNF-alpha. This causes inflammation. In a normal reaction the inflammation can help fight the disease and stay local. But a reaction on this level can cause inflammation throughout the whole body. This shuts down vital systems and if left untreated can kill the patient in a matter of hours.

TLDR

In a matter of hours you can also lose sleep because you spent an hour looking this up after watching a chick with ass dimple piercings.
