Most people spend little to no money on microtransactions, it's why publishers like to use dehumanizing terms like minnow, guppy, an.d whales. And out of all these terms who is most important to these lootbox economies? Whales, it's a few big spenders who ruin the experience for everyone and keep them in full price games

doesnt matter who the money is coming from for devs as long as the money is coming in. whether it's one person spending all the money or a million, as long as the devs see their revenue increasing because SOMEONE is willing to buy microtransactions, there's no reason NOT to put them in their games.

this mentality is not exclusive to video games. i work for a company in a different field but even we are trying to implement our industry's rough equivalent of microtransactions. nobody wants to just pay for a product anymore. the real money is in subscriptions and finding ways to get the customer to pay throughout the product's whole lifecycle.
