My initial reaction is that the comparison has some merit, but I'm familiar only with broad strokes of the 19th century and the particulars are missing for me.

So theres a few reaches but this gels with what I have been saying about Trump for a while, especially in my assertions that congress can and will seize more authority from the President the more Trump dawdles and that that would be a major development.

The article makes several reaches and tries to connect unrelated topics (the end of isolationism and the rise of the Imperial Presidency under FDR were incidentally linked through his person and the two arent necessarily linked at all)

That said if Trump would just shut up and let his staff run the show the example hed be following wouldn't be Millard Fillmore, it'd be Eisenhower.

However since Trump does actively shy away from picking legislative priorities or seizing moral leadership the man is pretty Filmore.
