C'mon, it wasn't garbage. The short films were beautiful but the tv series would have been terrific anime in their own right.
Yeah the tv series was far from garbage and was actually one of the best animes to come out in recent years (those who say otherwise, I'd like for them to state specifics). The problem with it is that it's not strong as a weekly anime. You have to watch all of them at once. There's so much non-sequitur, but it's supposed to depict the nonsensical, fun nature of magic so that the true purpose of the world changing magic doesn't come out of nowhere. So people who watched it weekly expecting the story to constantly continue usually tend to not like this as much as people who watch the series all at once like a long movie
I think the netflix model is changing how we view tv series, just like music streaming has changed how we view albums. It doesn't really matter anymore if a show delivers on a weekly basis, so long as it contributes to the season. ---
