It's inspired by an old 80s Canadian sketch comedy show: You can't do that on Television. One of the kids on the show said much the same thing about how lame it is to celebrate Columbus day, and the teacher agreed it shouldn't be celebrated, so the class could report to school that morning. Canceling the holiday shows commitment. Renaming it into a different day off is just continuing the trend of "feels good but doesn't really help anybody" activism that's been going on lately. --- ...
