It got so bad that they were killing themselves just so they wouldn't have to suffer under his rule. "So he was imperfect. Is he supposed to be like Martin Luther King? We're honoring his accomplishments, not him. Besides, disease killed most of them anyway, and he wasn't the only one committing atrocities. They all were." I don't care whether Columbus Day is renamed or removed or what, but defending him this much seems pretty silly.
