By the same token, the odds that North Korea will actually do something are similarly remote. They know they can't win a direct war with the US and while Kim is a maniac, he's not stupid - one missile launched would end his regime. This is simple calculus on his part to solidify his dynasty and deter any potential military action by showing that he could slaughter millions on his way out.


This is true, but I'm worried in 20 years they might have many accurate intercontinental ballistic nuclear missiles and at that point it won't matter if they can't beat the US in a conventional war.
