So I have zero interest in this movie, but I am very familiar with the source material and I fail to see how swapping for an all female cast in any way detracts from the source material. It's not like the Lord of the Flies has any major plot points that lean on the gender of the participants; the whole underlying message is about the tragic and innate savagery of humanity and our willingness to revert to animalism when the chips are down. That can be accomplished just as easily with a cast of girls as a cast of boys.

I have no idea why people are clutching their pearls over this. If anything, the use of girls might enhance the story due to girls' traditional association with purity, passiveness, and pacifism. Nothing guarantees this won't be a shitty movie, but screaming that everything is ruined just because none of the characters have dongs is more than a little sensationalist.

Also, how is it more realistic? The original story was that it was all boys because it was a flight evacuating a boys school; just change the school to a girl's school to make the cast all girls, or a co-ed school if you want mixed gender. I fail to see how any of those are unrealistic.
