I think Youtube is pretty interesting representation of the realities of society.

The design Youtube is that everyone is creating content and sharing memories/perspectives, and whenever you see advertisements or promos for it you're seeing Casey Neistat talking about how YT has inspired a generation of amateur filmmakers, awe-inspiring nature videos, videos for motivating social change, etc.

But when you really get into YouTube and see what is popular besides Despacito and Jimmy Fallon clips, you see the real bottom of the barrel trash that people truly go on YouTube to see.

Making Out With Girls Videos (jerkoff material for preteens), Stepping on black peoples' shoes in the hood pranks, crushing iPhones, Jake Paul vlogs, obese people reviewing fast food in their cars, Shoenice eating broken glass, pimple popping, etc

H3H3 productions does a good job of showing this part of YouTube, where it's people producing garbage and making shitloads of money off of it. I think that's a good snapshot of society, where we all pretend to be elevated people using our technology for education, enlightenment, and social change, but at the end of the day we really want to just watch LA Beast eat light bulbs and jars of mayo.
