Sour people will point out that racism was more rampant in those days. While this is true, the US was still in a better position in terms of standard of living than literally every other country on Earth. Nowadays, other nation have moved past what the US both was and is. There are too many social issues in the US and too much division for it to be considered "great" like it used to be. Trump isn't helping.

If the US wants to be great again, they need to slash their military budget, stop acting like the world police, bring manufacturing back, stand tall among their neighbours and allies, fix their corrupt police agencies, vastly increase education funding, and promote themselves as the beacon of freedom and welcoming global melting pot of world cultures as was always imagined.
