OP included the condition that legal immigration would be as smooth as you want. So even under that condition you don't want borders?

I'm not saying no borders. I'm not even arguing for or against the cause. I'm pointing out all research points to two things; firstly, both legal and illegal immigration tends to be a long term boon to the economy and despite short term difficulties, and secondly, people tend to integrate rather quickly.
