Target tracking is a mindless mechanic that assisting does almost nothing to impact the gameplay negatively. It isn't hard to track your targets with a mouse. You do it effortlessly with your subconscious. Aim assist is basically going "okay we assume you know how to do this extremely simple task so we'll take care of that for you in order for you to focus on the actual aiming since your joystick can't do both at once".

I think you're forgetting my stance here. Mice are definitely better. Controllers just aren't the absolutely unbearable experience PC elitists pretend they are.
