There's just as much variation in punk as in metal.

lolno. metal subgenres are so complex and branching that it's become a meme. punk may have some variance, but nowhere near the amount that metal does.

Everything from the Sex Pistols to Descendents to TSOL, Texas is the Reason to Moss Icon, Fugazi to Streetlight Manifesto, etc. It's all considered punk and it all sounds unique.

i googled these bands and some of them are emo, hardcore, post-hardcore. that's not punk. good job trying to over-represent your position though.

Emo, hardcore, and post-hardcore are all subgenres of punk, much in the same way that grindcore, doom, metalcore, prog metal, etc. are subgenres of metal.
