I've worked better paying jobs that did not require me to do anything while I was not being paid.

for instance, I've worked in a factory that paid significantly more than minimum wage. I needed to complete a short safety course to work there, and I did that while I was there, being paid.

Well Mr. entitled, get a different job if you are so offended. Am I also correct to assume that these former jobs you just worked at for a few months? Have you ever held a job for more than one year?

Factory work pays better because it's a lot more work than a job at a restaurant. Regardless, taking this kind of attitude is just going to fuck you over in the long run, make your work history look like complete shit and a lot of potential employers are going to throw away your application. Get it together and live in the adult world where you have to sometimes do things you don't like because it's part of life.
