If you do go with a desktop and you are set on prebuilt, don't get an Acer. Pretty much every manufacturer makes quality laptops these days -- including Acer -- but the big company prebuilt desktops are still absolute trash. With a prebuilt from somewhere like iBuyPower or CyberPower or something like that, you're getting a lot more for your money and the potential for expandability/upgradability

I can't read the whole topic right now but one of the positives of a desktop would be an always-on media center like I mentioned to you previously with my Plex account.

Laptops, though, are better now than they ever have been. Even gaming laptops are smart buys now since the cards in them are comparable to desktop cards. If you get a performance laptop, you'll want to search for "heat" "overheat" "hot" etc in the text of reviews because that's your primary concern. If you're not getting something for performance, then you want lightweight and fast.
