would you say this fair or the guy punching him committed a crime (assault)?

of course it'd be a crime. idk what this scenario has to do with their post, though
because this has occurred in real life on many occasions and the assaulter was indeed justified
say the n word, get beat
that isn't freedom of speech so why pretend like people are free to say it? that is disingenuous and will trick week minded people into getting into a bad situation where they get beat up by behaviour society condones and even sometimes demands
You're free to speak and others are free to react. You have to be mental to set out and deliberately attempt to offend someone and then get shocked at what happens once you succeed. ---
