I saw hard goth in the wild once.
Platform boots, fishnets, skirt, a top that probably took her 10 minutes to put on(black and strappy, of course), absolutely spectacular makeup on this petite, sexy blonde girl I slowly recognized as a coworker. I didn't realize I was staring at her until she glared at me, at which point I blushed, maybe audibly squeaked, and looked away.
That's my story. I told it to a girlfriend once and she nodded and exclaimed, "Yeah, their outfits are so intricate!" as though there could be no other reason to stare...possibly the straightest thing anyone's ever said to me.
